Go Behind the Scenes of Stargate Origins

Our first look at the newest installment of the Stargate universe has been released online via video that takes fans around the intricate sets of Stargate Origins.

Set before the original film and followup television show, the project was first announced at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con back in July. It will follow the adventures of Catherine Langford — the daughter of archaeologist Paul Langford, who discovered the Stargate in 1928. Due to her father’s penchant for artifacts, the younger Langford has also devoted her life embarking on adventures that would help in understanding more the instant spacial transport portal that is known to Earth as Stargate. We have seen Catherine in various stages of her life in other outings from the sci-fi series, but this is the first time that we will join her she goes on her personal explorations.

The two-minute clip posted on Stargate Command’s official YouTube (watch it above) sees Australian actress Ellie Gall, who plays the lead of the series, giving fans a tour of what she aptly calls the “tent city” — the show’s backdrop constructed on a soundstage — as the project kicks-off principal photography. The video then shows a flurry of action shots and in-between-take breaks, giving us a feel of what the production process for the project feels and looks like. Meanwhile, Stargate Origins director  Mercedes Bryce Morgan also offered her sentiments on filming the prequel web series saying: “We had stunts and we had blood and we had emotional moments, and I feel like we really hit all those and at the end it was going and going and going and going.”

Stargate Heres Whats Going on Behind the Scenes of Stargate Origins

While the clip is jam-packed with interesting visuals, it is still difficult to decipher what narrative Stargate Origins will tread. Based on its looks alone, it does give off a strong Indiana Jones vibe, having similar archeologist leads who have an inclination to digging up mysteries and unraveling secrets from artifacts. Even Jones’ and Langford’s ensembles look very similar. But with the incorporation of space travel in the web series, the show has a potential to be something truly memorable. At the same time, some story points are arguably a bit sensitive at this point in time, such as colonialism and even Europe’s earlier ransacking of Egypt’s national historic treasures.

The film set looks awesome, the camera work appears to be very interesting and it seems like everyone involved in the project is thrilled to be there, but the success rate of the series remains questionable due to its distribution format, among other factors. The show will be made available via MGM’s exclusive Stargate-centric online streaming service, Stargate Command. It’s not a secret that not everyone is yet sold on the idea of a Stargate prequel, but who knows, it might surprise everyone one and exceed expectations once it has finally rolled out.

No official premiere date for Stargate Origins but initial announcement says that it is expected to roll out this Fall.
