A new trailer for the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow episode “Here I Go Again” reveals that the crew of The Waverider is about to become stuck in a time loop. The trailer also shows the majority of the team in Disco attire, for reasons that are not explained.
Based around a team of time-traveling superheroes who protect the continuity of space and time (albeit with wildly erratic methods), Legends of Tomorrow recently made a triumphant return to the airwaves following its winter hiatus. The series’ long awaited mid-season premiere, “Daddy Darhkest”, saw the titular Legends team with exorcist and master of the dark arts John Constantine in order to help a demonically possessed girl who seemed to have some kind of connection to their team. Earlier trailers promised this would be the precursor to a magical war, which would fit well with the current season’s exploration of the magical side of The DC Comics Universe.

The CW Television Network released the trailer, which can be viewed above. The network also provided the following synopsis of the episode.
FINDING YOUR PLACE — After the team returns from a mission, Zari (Tala Ashe) finds herself trapped in a time loop that results in the Waverider blowing up over and over again. Zari soon begins to suspect that the answer to stop what is happening might lie hidden among her fellow shipmates’ secrets. But in investigating them she starts to understand her place on the team. Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Dominc Purcell, Nick Zano, Maise Richardson-Sellers, Nick Zano and Keiynan Lonsdale also stars. Ben Bray directed the episode written by Ray Utarnachitt & Morgan Faust (#311). Original airdate 2/19/2018.
Even without the trailer name-dropping the film, it’s clear that “Here I Go Again” is drawing inspiration from Groundhog Day – the 1993 classic comedy starring Bill Murray as an embittered weatherman who is forced to keep living the same day over and over again. This synopsis also confirms earlier reports of a Legends of Tomorrow episode inspired by the famous film.
Given Legends of Tomorrow‘s status as perhaps the most overtly comedic of The CW’s superhero series, it’s surprising that they didn’t pay tribute to Groundhog Day sooner. The series is beloved for its witty humor and its willingness to play around with the sillier concepts and conceits of science-fiction and a comic book reality. Both of these things were also hallmarks of the writing and direction of Harold Ramis, the legendary comedian who wrote and directed Groundhog Day. From the look of this trailer fans of Legends of Tomorrow are in for a worthy tribute to what Ramis considered his finest film.
Legends Of Tomorrow returns with “Here I Go Again” on Monday, February 19, 2018 on The CW.
