[SPOILERS for those not caught up on The Walking Dead ahead.]
On next week’s episode of The Walking Dead, fans will finally find out what Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) has been up to since his base was attacked by Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his people. Despite being the antagonist of the season, the character has been noticeably absent since he was last seen in a room with Gabriel (Seth Gilliam.)
Season 8 of The Walking Dead has brought “All Out War” to the Saviors, after Alexandria, the Hilltop and the Kingdom decided that they were tired of living in servitude to Negan. Rick delivered a crushing blow to the Saviors when Rick used a zombie hoard to launch a coordinated attack on Negan’s base. Overrun by zombies, Negan and his people were forced to retreat, making the battle a victory for Rick’s forces. Other battles have not gone as well, such as the Kingdom’s defeat in last night’s episode, which resulted in the tragic death of Ezekiel’s tiger, Shiva.

In a promo for next week’s episode, titled “The Big Scary U”, fans are shown a glimpse of how the Saviors are handing the war, in contrast to past episodes which have put the focus on ‘the good guys’ of the story. At the beginning of the trailer, Negan, Lucille in hand, tackles Gabriel. One of Negan’s lieutenants, Gavin (Jayson Warner Smith), warns that one of them “made everything out there happen.”
Simon (Steven Ogg) casts a suspicious look at Dwight (Austin Amelio), making fans wonder if the character’s secret alliance with Rick is about to be exposed. Negan talks about more people dying because he’s not there to stop it, while Rick and Daryl (Norman Reedus) discuss their plan to defeat the Saviors.
AMC has released a synopsis for the episode:
A close look at Negan and the lives of the Saviors through a familiar set of eyes.
The episode could prove interesting to fans who have been looking forward to learning the fate of Gabriel, but also to fans who have been waiting to see a different side of Negan. Throughout season 7, fans saw Negan as a character who had become completely comfortable with being in control of everything. Now that his hold on them has been shaken for the first time, Negan may not be as confident as he once was. Fans will have to wait and see how Negan will handle this new challenge, and if his rage will cost Gabriel his life.
The Walking Dead continues with “The Big Scary U” on November 9th on AMC.
