The list of nominations for Best Film for the 2018 Producers Guild of America Awards is now online, including Wonder Woman. Awards season is now in full swing with the 2018 Golden Globes set to air this Sunday – January 7 – with the Critic’s Choice Awards following suit next Thursday and the Screen Actors Guild Awards coming the week after that. Of course, people most look forward to the annual Academy Awards, which are scheduled to air in March, but there’s always something special for industry insiders to be nominated by their peers.
The Producers Guild of America – a trade association comprised of working film and television producers in America – first launched the Golden Laurel Awards in 1990 (now simply known as the PGA Awards) that selects the best film and TV producers of the year based on the products they release. La La Land won Best Theatrical Motion Picture from a list of 10 nominees in 2017, but things seem to be more competitive in 2018, as there are now 11 nominees vying for the top prize.

Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, which was snubbed from the 2018 Golden Globes, are both on the list for Best Theatrical Motion Picture of 2017, alongside other nominees: Michael Showalter’s The Big Sick, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya, Steven Spielberg’s The Post, Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, and Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards. What’s interesting about Wonder Woman‘s nomination is that, while Jenkins has been rightfully receiving praise for bringing the first female-led superhero movie of Wonder Woman‘s scale to life on the big screen, it all started with producers Zack Snyder (who co-wrote the story with Jason Fuchs and Allan Heinberg) and Deborah Snyder, as well as longtime DC film producer Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. Furthermore, a great number of other producers worked on the film, such as then-DC Films heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, but they are ineligible for the awards seeing as they’re not PGA members.
The 29th Annual Producers Guild of America Awards will be held on Saturday, January 20.
