Although the interminable wait makes it seem more like the premiere of season 2, the second half of The Tick season 1 is almost upon us and Amazon has released a new trailer as a reminder. The new series with Peter Serafinowicz in the big blue suit first premiered in August, but only aired half of its 12-episode first season order. Those episodes effectively established the connection between the Tick and his moth-suited and unwitting best friend Arthur (Griffin Newman), but it also went to work building the strange world of Ben Edlund’s creation, introducing a bevy of new characters, like Overkill (Scott Speiser), Superian (Brendan Hines), Ms. Lint (Yara Martinez), and of course, the Terror.
Played by Jackie Earle Haley, the Terror was thought to have been killed years ago, but as it turns out, he was just biding his time before making his big comeback. The first six episodes played up the Terror’s role in the series, and positioned him as a major threat to the City — which the Tick has sworn to protect, for better or worse. And as he’s clearly going to be the Big Bad of the next batch of episodes (the poster says it all), a new trailer for the series’ return sees an unlikely band of heroes assembling to do battle with the villain.

As Tick says, he’s looking “to get the old gang back together,” beginning with Overkill. The skull-faced vigilante had was one of the “heroes” who played a significant part in the first half of the season, primarily due to the fact that his kill-first-ask-questions-later approach to crime fighting is so remarkably different than the Tick’s. Though they had their differences and seemed destined to forever be at odds with one another, it was definitely in Overkill’s favor that his headquarters and sidekick were combined in Dangerboat (voiced by Alan Tudyk), making it all but a necessity the two be on the Tick’s team.
But there are plenty more heroes set to appear as the Tick and Arthur prepare for battle with the Terror and, presumably, his miniature pig. Among them are familiar faces like Dot (Valorie Curry), Tinfoil Kevin (Devin Ratray) and Superian, but also Midnight, a talking dog with a penchant for fashionable eyewear.
In addition to the ensemble of heroes on their way, the second half of The Tick season 1 looks like it’s adding more action and special effects to the mix as well. Though it’s just a smattering of what fans can likely expect, there seems to be more spectacle on the horizon, as both Tick and Arthur demonstrate their abilities and take the fight to the Terror and his wonderfully ridiculous flying T.
